Biomass producer, Land Energy signs two major ESCO boiler contracts

Land Energy, a UK based renewable energy business, is pleased to announce the signing of two major heat supply contracts to the agri-sector. Land Energy will finance, install and operate wood pellet fired boiler systems on an ‘Energy Supply Company’ (ESCO) basis. They will also supply both customers with their own low carbon premium quality wood pellets from their production plant in Girvan, South West Scotland. The ESCO package covers the cost of the boiler equipment, installation, maintenance, insurance and wood pellet fuel and allows customers to reduce their carbon footprint by almost 90% versus fossil fuels, with zero capital outlay.

Currently, the wood pellet supply chain in the UK is relatively nascent compared to mainland Europe and Scandinavia. However, Land Energy has long-term feedstock arrangements in place and a wood pellet production capacity of 60,000 tonnes, enabling unmatched security of supply.

Both new customers are off-grid and one of the biggest challenges that they faced was the fluctuating nature of their heating costs due to the volatility of oil prices. Land Energy’s ESCO package offers them a long-term and stable solution to their energy needs.

The businesses also have zero conversion risk as their existing heating systems can remain in situ and be used for backup purposes.

Land Energy’s John Westmacott comments, ‘ With construction at the Girvan plant almost complete, these contracts are a real endorsement of Land Energy’s experience and knowledge within the market. We look forward to working with both companies to provide them with the best solutions to their individual heat requirements. We are very excited about the future of the UK’s biomass industry and the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive is encouraging more businesses to act now. As well as these important contracts, we have a number of other major deals in the pipeline.’
