One of the world's largest wood-powered power plants could be built near Middlesbrough under plans submitted to the government yesterday.
London-based company MGT Power wants to build a £400 million plant at a 14 hectare dockside site in Teesport, to generate 300MW of power from short rotation forestry woodchip.
MGT Power said its Tees Renewable Energy Plant proposal would produce the same amount of power over a whole year as a 1 GW wind farm, such as the planned London Array, since it would operate for 90% of the time.
